Air Cleaner Reviews: Best Review Winix WAC5300 True HEPA Air Cleaner with PlasmaWave Technology

hepa filter is the way to go
With winter coming fast now and more time being spent inside the home its important to make sure your air filter in your furnace is clean and ready. Air purifier filters are one of the things you don't want to forget to replace in your furnace so you have good clean air in your home during the winter. This is important for your family's health.

Here we are at the behest of another winter. Already its the last week in October and the temperatures are beginning to drop significantly. Man, summer went quick! Seems like just yesterday I was talking about spring coming on. Now the trees are changing color already.

Anyway, with cold weather coming on most people are putting away their summer patio furniture and battening down the hatches to get ready for the cold weather and snow. This means that more people will be spending more and more time inside their houses. Once the cold weather comes most people will be getting outside only by their computers through the internet.

If you can call that getting outside. Of course theres still the trips to work and the grocery store and so on. Any length of time spent outdoors will be limited for sure. Unless you take a trip to where theres warmer weather, most will be staying inside the house.

With the coming of winter also brings more sicknesses like colds and flu and things of that nature. It seems like winter time is the time most people come down with some kind of fever or flu. That is the reason for this review. This review comes, with the view in mind of greatly reducing the chances of that happening to you and your family.

As usual after many days of researching different products with this in mind, to reduce people's chances of getting sickly this winter and every winter for that matter. I have decided the best way to help people is to make sure their air is as pure as possible in their houses. As you know from my other reviews, my criteria for choosing a product to review is very strict.

It must meet quality, purpose and price before it will make it to this site for review. After many long hours of research I chose the air purifier or air cleaner by The Winix Company. It's called the Winix WAC5300 True HEPA Air Cleaner with PlasmaWave™ Technology.

This product more than meets my criteria for review. This air purifier has the whole package. Quality, usefulness, and a more than reasonable price that everyone can afford. So let's take a look at this product and dissect it, to see what it's made of for you and your family.

The first thing I want to focus on is the Technology that they've built into this product called the Plasma Wave Technology. So what is it?
  • The Plasma Wave technology creates the positive and negative ions that will combine with natural water vapor to form whats called hydroxyls. These hydroxyls will neutralize viruses, bacteria, chemical vapors, odors and gases and break apart the molecular structure into water vapor and other harmless air molecules. This technology emulates the way nature cleans the air. Making the air the cleanest you can breath.
This is the point that attracted me to this product when I read about it. A good quality point for you. I don't know about you but, I like the idea of being able to breath the best air I can. Especially with all the air pollution thats in our air today. Even in our homes.

Product Description

winix 5300 plasmawave air purifierThe Winix WAC5300 True HEPA Air Cleaner with Plasma Wave Technology combines the best air cleaning technologies that deliver clean, fresh air. It is 99.97% efficient HEPA air filtration, with a odor control carbon pre-filter. Along with the Plasma Wave Technology, it offers superior control of household odors, pollutants and allergens. It is also Energy Star Qualified, AHAM Certified, and UL Approved.

It is also capable of cleaning the air of a large family room or living room and bedroom. It will clean the air of up to 350 square feet of space.

The Features

3 Stage Air Cleaning:
  • Stage 1:
Carbon Pre-Filter system that will filter all the air-borne odors. Such as odors from cooking, cigarette smoke and general organic decaying odors.
  • Stage 2:
99.97% True HEPA filtering. This filtering process catches everything Stage 1 misses. Such as viruses, odors and other pollutants.
  • Stage 3:
The Plasma Wave Technology. It is the finishing process the air goes through before it is released back into the room for breathing. As stated, makes the air the best that you can breath. This is something that a majority of other air cleaners of the same caliber do not have. It's a high quality feature for you.

About HEPA Filters

What does HEPA Stand for?  HEPA stands for High Efficiency Particulate Arresting filter. This quality type of air filter was first introduced by the Aerospace industry. It is most commonly used by NASA in filtering the air for the Astronauts in space flights. HEPA filters can trap smoke, soot, micro-dust, pet dander, mold spores, pollen and most airborne microbials. Another fine quality point about this particular product.

Air Quality Sensor:
  • This feature monitors the presence of air-borne particles and it will adjust the air cleaners settings automatically. That gives you a set it and forget it convenience. Nice feature!
Energy Star Qualified:
  • This of course allows the unit to operate on very low usage of electricity. For example like your computer monitor is probably Energy Star Compliant. Thats a capability to allow it to go to sleep when not in use. Power saving, a nice feature as well.

Nano Silver Mesh

When it comes time to replace the HEPA filter you'll know because the "Replace filter Indicator" will let you know. The Winix Company manufactures a replacement filter that actually has a silver mesh built into it. Yes, real silver!

Silver has qualities known to naturally inhibit and resist growth of bacteria by neutralizing the potential of it to reproduce. Silver is used in many applications where hygiene and cleanliness are of importance. This silver is added to the HEPA filter as an added superior benefit to the already outstanding home air cleaner.

I'm excited about this product because of its many quality features. After reading this far, I'm sure you can see what I'm talking about.

The Air Quality Sensor Details

The air quality sensor is actually 3 sensors built into 1. Those 3 sensors are:
  • Odor Sensor
  • Particle Sensor
  • Light Sensor
The odor sensor will monitor the air quality for chemicals that cause odors from a wide range of sources. Including volatile compounds like paint and cleaning solutions. Also, ammonia, and smoke. Pretty awesome!
The particle sensor will scan the air around the air cleaner for the presence of particles.

Such as pet dander, dust, smoke particles, pollen, and other allergens that are aggravating to the sinuses. These also can lead to illness. This is a cool feature. Amazing technology. The light sensor will automatically adjust the air cleaner for quiet and energy efficient operation while you are sleeping or away from your home.

This air purifier from Winix is loaded with many benefits as you can see. Now you know why I said, it more than meets our criteria for a quality purposeful product. But the best is yet to come, stay with me!

Ok, Does This Awesome Air Purifier have a Warranty?

You Bet'cha:
  • 1 year limited warranty
Alright, I Want To See Some Pro's and Con's? Got'cha Covered!

The Pro's
  • I could not be happier with the Winix I paid $149.00 for the 5300 and $350.00 for the Rabbit Air 421A my humble opinion there is not a difference in quality of clean air coming from either unit.
You absolutely cannot go wrong with the 5300 one of those great finds!!!
  • When i said - "lots and lots of power " just consider this - my living room is about 400 sq.feet. There were three smokers in it puffing for a few hours. the air purifier is either on turbo mode or the third setting. all the windows and doors are closed. two friends of mine came in and they COULD NOT tell that anybody did smoke in the room!!! no smell, NADA !!!and that is about cigarette smoke - the one that stays for days and really really stinks.
  • The Winix 5300 on its lowest setting seems to be moving just as much air as my old air purifier (Bionaire) did on it's highest setting and the Winix does it whisper quiet.
The Con's
  • The unit is a bit big for a small room, but looks fine, the sound is fine if no one is in the room. But under the fan noise there is a high pitched flutter noise in the unit I received.
  • If you don't mind the noise when the Winix PlasmaWave 5300 is set on the highest setting, then it will improve air quality in your room.
  • If the Sharp FPP40CX were the same price, I'd have gotten that one. It's plasma feature was silent, looked nicer, was white, thinner, and had a nice handle, which the 5300 is missing. The 5300 pushes more air though on it's most silent setting, so I'm keeping it.
Thats some of the Pro's and Con's. Let me put this into perspective, at the time of this writing there are over 100 user writings about this product. 69 of them are 5 star ratings! These Pro's and Con's come from Amazon. You can read more of them there. This product has a 4.5 star rating among users.

Cool, How Much Should I Expect To Pay For Something This Good?

plasma wave makes air healthy and cleanWell like I said earlier, the best was yet to come. Right now (at the time of this writing) you can get this awesome home air cleaner at Amazon for only $149.00. Plus it qualifies for FREE shipping as well. If you were to purchase this unit from the Winix Company itself, you'd pay $200.00. So, couple the price from Amazon and the free shipping and you have a great deal going on.

Oh, and one other great feature I almost forgot to mention. This top quality product is entirely manufactured here in the good ole US of A! And we like that!

So Where Should I Buy One for My Family?

I think all things considering, you won't be able to find a better deal anywhere else on this air cleaner. You should get your's at Amazon. You can do so right here.

Heres to your family's health, and happiness. I hope you have a reduced and/or sick-less winter with no illnesses. Not only for the winter but for all year long, every year!

Craftsmen Guide to Air Tools

air tool air grinder
Its a nice thing to have an air compressor for use at your home. Air tools and power tools are precisely what a man needs to accomplish all his home working goals. Pneumatic tools, as air tools are sometimes referred to come in many forms and sizes to help the home craftsmen get their projects done much easier.

Saving the homeowner many hours in labor whether your working with wood, metals, or any other type of material to accomplish the project. Doesn't matter if your building a dream home or just inflating a basket ball for your kids, there are tools available to you to help in getting done what needs to be done.

As you can see the air compressor is a very valuable tool to you. As I stated in my other articles, I think everyone should own an air compressor. That is if you don't mind working longer and harder at what ever project your looking to accomplish. Sometimes it just takes more than regular hand tools to git-r-done.

Strong Companies in this Market

In this article I'll give you a guide to some of the various air tools available to you today. We'll touch on why just picking any air tool is not advantageous. It is important to choose the right one, and I'll explain that here as well.

There are many companies that make these tools for air compressors. Some of the more prominent ones include...
  • Ingersoll Rand
  • Bosch
  • And Chicago Pneumatic

Making the Right Choice

It's important to make sure you choose the right air tool for the particular air compressor you own. When I say the right tool I'm not referring to the type of tool, but rather the rating labeled on the tool. For example, if your air compressor is rated at 130PSI (pounds per square inch) such as the Makita MAC700 I reviewed here on the site.

air tool grinder
And you use a tool rated at 170PSI, your not going to get the maximum power use out of that tool. On the other hand if you have an air tool rated at 110PSI and use it with the Makita MAC700 at 130PSI, your taking the chance of ruining the air tool very quickly. Not to mention possible danger to your self.

No, it is very important, that you take the time to match up the air tool's PSI rating with that of your air compressor's rating. In doing so you ensure not only getting the maximum benefit of the tool, but the maximum safety for yourself as well.

Understanding Air Tools

Always remember to match those together when purchasing your pneumatic tools. Now let's have a look at some of the various tools available to the homeowner. We will talk about each regardless of the type of project it is used for. There are many different air tools for the homeowner. This guide is also useful for the professional as well.

Pneumatic Drills:
  • These drills work just like any other drill. But are much more powerful than their counterpart electric drills. And way more powerful than the cordless drill. As with conventional drills, you can get all the different types of bits that go with it.
Air Grinder:
  • This grinder just like any other grinder comes with many different grinding bits for it's use. It can also be used for some sanding projects as well.
Pneumatic Hammers:
  • These hammers cannot only be used to hammer with like a conventional hammer, but they come with different bits for chiseling and chipping as well. Woodworkers enjoy the benefit of this tool.
air tool impact wrench
Lubricators:
  • These air tools you commonly see used at your local oil change garage. Not only to pump the new oil into your engine but also to grease your ball joints and tie rods of your automobile. If you have one of these tools you don't need to go to a garage to have your's lubricated anymore!
Air Nail Guns:
  • There are 3 different types of nail guns in use. They are, Framing Nail Guns, Finishing Nail Guns, and Roofing Nail Guns. Some of these types are automatic firing, and some are semi-automatic. Careful use is required for these.
Air Paint Sprayers:
  • These come in a couple varieties. Primarily they are used for automobile painting and the like. Also as indicated in my article "Simple Effective Artwork Create Striking Art", paint sprayers are used in beautiful airbrushing art.
Pneumatic Ratchets:
  • These air tools are used just like their counterparts called the socket wrench. Only with much greater power for those stubborn rusted on nuts and bolts. And can be used with many sizes of sockets available.
Air Sanders:
  • Similar in use to the grinder, the sander has many types of sanding bits that can be applied to it. These are widely used in the auto body industry.
Air Saws:
  • These tools come in a couple of forms. Called power cutting, they come in a circular version and a hack saw type as well. Used primarily in cutting metals.
Tire Inflators:
  • Pretty much self explanatory. These are also used for inflating sports balls and the like.
Pneumatic Wrenches:
  • The place you probably see these used the most is in Nascar. Whenever the driver comes in for a pit stop and they change tires you see this tool used to make the tire change very quick. Also called Impact Wrenches.
 The Wrap Up

air tool nail gun
These are some of the various wonderful tools available today for you if you have an air compressor. If it wasn't for the many varied sizes of nuts and bolts, I believe air tools would make regular conventional hand tools obsolete.

Air tools, also referred to as pneumatic tools, have several advantages over electric power tools. For one, they offer more torque and power than conventional power tools. They also are generally more durable than their electric counterparts because they have fewer moving parts.

Let me reiterate it again, everyone should own an air compressor.

Effective Scuba Diving Thrives on Air Compressors

even dogs dig scuba diving
For scuba divers the air compressor is an especially valuable tool. Scuba diving enthusiasts the world over know the importance of the scuba air compressor. For it is their lifeline. It is their ability to experience the underwater world that most of us will never know.

The beauty of God's underwater creation is such that only those that wear the scuba gear can thrive in. Dive gear comes in all sorts of apparatuses and clothing to protect the scuba diver while under the depths of the ocean or whatever body of water they choose to explore.

Thus scuba diving is in a class all of it's own, because of the nature of what it takes to explore the depths of the underwater planet. Of all hobbies, scuba diving truly stands alone.

Seeing the Differences

In this article we will explore the divers primary piece of gear. The scuba diving air compressor. Of course this would be for those people who desire to fill their own air tanks for breathing underwater. Most tanks are filled at a scuba diving shop for a nominal price.

The first thing you recognize about the scuba air compressor is, even though it's the same type of compressor that you'd use in your garage or on the job, it is a reciprocating compressor. If you read my other article on the Various Types you would recognize that as piston compressed air.

scuba in a world of its own
But with a major difference. That major difference being the quality of the air. Also in my article on Safety Techniques, I made mention that you should never inhale the air from and air compressor. The scuba compressor however, is much different.

The Quality is Important

There are special techniques and things that need to be followed in order to make the air from this type compressor breathable. Lets explore these techniques now so if you have one or plan to buy one, you'll know the important points.

One thing about the scuba diving compressor is that it can compress air in the divers tank at a huge 3000 PSI. These tanks are specially made for this type of pressure. This allows the diver to be able to be down under water longer. Because of the extreme amount of air compressed into the tank at one time.

The obvious importance here is the quality of the air your going to be breathing. Scuba air compressors have special filters on them to filter out contaminations of oil and various particles and chemicals. Here are the primary substances that must be filtered out.
  • Oil
  • Carbon Monoxide
  • Water
Each special filter is made to filter each component separately. Oil needs to filtered out because it's used in the lubricating of the compressor motor. This motor oil, although a special type for that compressor, is still harmful if inhaled. It must be removed.

scuba compressor showing the required filters
To remove the oil, a filter of activated carbon or what is called a molecular sieve is used. In removing carbon monoxide the filter is called a catalyst. As you probably know carbon monoxide is very deadly. Thats why you never start your car in an enclosed area with no ventilation. Carbon monoxide is a silent but deadly killer.

Water is removed by silica gel filter or also a molecular sieve. Condensation tends to build up where air is enclosed in a small area and must be removed for breathing. Every so often the gas produced by a scuba air compressor should be checked.

Better Safe Than Sorry

The gases that are tested for impurity are...
  • Water Vapor
  • Nitrogen Dioxide
  • Carbon Dioxide
  • Carbon Monoxide
  • Lubricating-Oil Vapour
  • Odor and Taste
  • Solid Particles
These things are very important to be checked in my opinion about every 50 hours of use of the air compressor. Now some will say after every 200 hours is sufficient. I like to be a little safer myself. The old saying is "better safe than sorry", and thats a good one to live by.

I Hate Cramps, Don't You

One other reason for the close monitoring of these chemicals is it directly affects the decompression when rising back up from a deep exploration. Particularly the CO or carbon monoxide because it readily binds to the hemoglobin of the red blood cells and destroys the bloods ability to carry oxygen.

girls love to scuba dive
You've heard of the "benz" haven't you? Thats what happens when the scuba diver rises to fast to the surface after the dive. It is commonly felt by a cramping of the muscles. This can be deadly if to much CO has been ingested during the dive.

It is imperative that you pay close attention to the amounts of the chemicals listed above, that your scuba compressor is creating at all times.

The Wrap Up

These are some of the important things you should know when you own a scuba air compressor. So as to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable experience each and every time you go for a dive. What I've given you in this article are the basics to scuba compressors.

If you wish to know more there are many places to seek out information here on the internet. Scuba diving is without a doubt one of the most fascinating experiences a human can ever have on earth. My wish is that you have safe and continually safe diving experiences each and every time you go for the wild blue yonder.

By paying close attention to your air compressor that can always be achieved!
