Summer is here now and grilling is in full swing. I know that I have already grilled at least a dozen times this year so far and theres much more to come. I'm sure you've done the same if your into grilling as well. Maybe even more than me.
Theres nothing like firing up the bbq and grilling and maybe even smoking your favorite meats. The smell of the grill is like a little piece of heaven in your backyard. Wonderful!
The Savory Idea
In this article I'll give you some tips on how to get the most out of your experience with the flavor. After all the flavor is what its all about. One of the favorite things I like to do, is marinade my meats with beer.
If you've never used this technique before now, then your in for a special treat with what you'll learn from this writing. There are many store bought marinades you can have for your meats. Some of those are..
Then after you create your masterpiece, you'll use your grill to get the most flavor for your effort. If you read my popular, earlier article "Tips for Smoking Meat on your Barbecue Grill", you'll be able to use those techniques to enhance the flavor even more.
Now then, lets get down to business and get our mouth watering masterpiece created. First you want to start with the type of meat you want to marinade. I'm sure you know the most popular choices:
Delicious-itize It
I had a friend of mine showed me how to do this and it works very well. So I'm happy to pass this on to you. Now that we have our choice piece of steaks, we first want to tenderize it.
Here, we don't mean to use meat tenderizer powder that you get at the grocery. What we want to do is use a meat tenderizing mallet. Usually made of wood. Then we strike the meat several times on each side of the steak.
This will soften the meat and prepare it for the marinade. Next we'll take a large bowl, big enough to lay the meat flat. Then we take our beer and prepare it. Now some may ask, what is the best beer to use?
I don't think it matters. Whether its an imported beer or domestic depending on what you like. Its your choice. I just use any domestic beer, preferably the cheapest.
We then pour enough beer into our bowl, just enough that you want to cover the meat with. No need to use more than you need here. Next, I add in my spices that I want to use.
I use Garlic powder, and other meat seasonings, maybe even onion powder. Also barbecue sauce makes a great addition to the marinade. Just use whatever your heart desires for this. After we've put in what spices we want to use we simply stir the mixture up really well.
Then we lay our steak into our steak marinade. Cover it and set it in the refrigerator. Now the real action happens. And that happens over time. We let the steak marinade in the bowl for approximately 3 - 5 days.
This will give the marinade enough time to permeate the steak. During which time we at least once a day, turn the meat over. After about 4 days we're ready to go.
Simply prepare your grill and if you choose to smoke it as well, put in your favorite type of wood and grill your steak to perfection. Along with your favorite accompaniments such as potatoes or corn or maybe even asparagus, you have created something that would make even Martha Stewart's mouth water!
